On March 20th, both chambers of the New Mexico Legislature voted in concurrence to help bolster low-cost spay/neuter programs in New Mexico by passing Representative Carl Trujillo’s House Bill 415. Thank you so much for helping in this achievement! But remember, this important bill will only become law with the Governor’s signature. Your voice matters in New Mexico. Please call or email Governor Susana Martinez today and ask for her signature on HB415.
House Bill 415 will benefit New Mexico’s low-cost spay/neuter programs. Contact Governor Martinez today and ask for her signature on this life-saving legislation.
New Mexico Needs House Bill 415!
Very simply, it provides for:
• a voluntary tax check-off to allow individuals to designate a portion of their income tax refund toward a statewide fund for dog and cat sterilization assistance;
• a new source of revenue to augment funding from the state’s spay/neuter license plate;
• a directive to the state’s Animal Sheltering Board for further program development of voluntary spay/neuter initiatives.
Every year, New Mexico’s public and private animal shelters take in more than 135,000 dog and cats. Of those, over 65,000 are euthanized every year. The health, safety, and general welfare of the animals and residents of New Mexico will benefit by having more affordable, accessible spay/neuter services available. Also, related fiscal burdens on government will decrease, freeing up money for other community needs.
House Bill 415 gives residents a way to participate directly in solving New Mexico’s staggering dog and cat overpopulation problem and move New Mexico toward a more humane future for animals, families, and communities.
Please let Governor Susana Martinez hear from you today. Please politely ask her to continue to support New Mexico’s companion animals and ask for her signature on HB415.
Thank YOU for caring.
