How Did Your Lawmakers Measure Up for Animals?
Kick off the new year by analyzing last year’s votes—and get ready to lobby for New Mexico’s animals in 2016!
Are you ready? The 2016 state legislative session – the 30-day “short session” that our state legislators have to pass legislation for year – is upon us!
Beginning on January 19, 2016, the short session is limited only to budget issues and requests by the Governor, so APV’s top priority is ensuring critical state programs that help animals and our communities are funded through the next fiscal year. We will also stay vigilant to stop any anti-animal bills in their tracks.
There is no better way to prepare for the 2016 session than to educate ourselves about, and hold our elected officials accountable for, the impact that last year’s votes had on animals!
This is the 12th year that Animal Protection Voters has produced a Scorecard, which reports on every single New Mexico legislator’s vote on legislation affecting the wellbeing of animals, helping animal advocates, like you, to see how your state representative and state senator measure up against everyone else.
Here’s a sneak peek at our thoughts on the 2015 state legislative session:
Other features in the Scorecard include:
- Descriptions of every 2015 state bill impacting animal protection
- A letter from APV Executive Director Elisabeth Jennings, highlighting 2015’s biggest victories and challenges
